PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
POST OFFICE (10 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House recognises that the British Post Office is one industry which the nation is justifiably proud of, is a world leader in terms of profitability and efficiency, and fulfils a social function which enhances the quality of life; notes that 91.5 per cent. of first class letters arrive on time; further notes that over the past 10 years the Post Office has contributed ú820 million to the Treasury, operates over 170 Postbuses which transport mail and people in remote parts of Britain, and that in addition to this, the Post Office delivers mail anywhere, no matter how remote and in all types of weather, for a price less than a three minute telephone call; and, in view of the fact the United Kingdom is in a golden age of postal services, therefore calls upon the Government to support the postal service and keep it under public ownership.
