PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SHELTERED WORKSHOPS - WEST YORKSHIRE (9 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the extremely valuable work undertaken by ISCO5 sheltered workshops in West Yorkshire; is astonished at the callous disregard of this venture by the Government in allowing a lower 'loss leader' bid for leaflet storage and distribution work thus placing in jeopardy between 56 and 64 jobs, many of the people involved being disabled workers; calls on the Government to make an exception to the tendering process to ensure that severely disabled people are retained at work since they cannot obtain jobs in open employment; and recognises that this case will illustrate whether the Government are prepared to assist disabled people or throw them on the scrap heap of perpetual unemployment.
