PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SUB POST OFFICES AND TRANSFER OF PENSIONS PAYMENTS (8 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House is appalled that without consultation the DSS has introduced a trial scheme to encourage pensioners to have pensions paid, one month in arrears, through bank or building society automatic credit transfer; notes that new pensioners have been given variable advice which does not include the option of using their local sub-post office; believes this to be a surreptitious attempt by Her Majesty's Government to undermine the network of sub-post offices; further believes that this will lead to the removal of the core business of local sub-post offices leading to the closure of many of them; and calls for an end to this trial in the interest of local communities and the sub-postmasters and mistresses who serve them.
