Fisons and Peat Extraction (20 May 1990)
Motion Details
That this House supports the shareholders of Fisons who are questioning that company's continued peat extraction at the expense of key wildlife habitats; recognises that 96 per cent. of Fisons' peat cutting operations take place on lands designated by the Nature Conservancy Council as sites of special scientific interest; calls on Fisons to announce a switch from peat extraction to the supply of renewable alternative products; applauds the decision of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to cease using peat on his estates and to support the Peatlands Campaign; and urges the Government to urgently review the planning process in relation to peat extraction on sites of special scientific interest and to promote the rapid phasing out of peat use.
