PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HOMELESS MENTALLY ILL AND UNREGISTERED CARE HOMES (4 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates Granada TV for exposing in its Disguises programme the fact that many homeless mentally ill are forced to live in private hotels which are neither registered nor inspected under the provisions of the Registered Homes Act 1984; notes that many residents in such establishments are in receipt of income support payments towards the costs of their care; and calls upon the Government to ensure that the Department of Social Security when paying benefits in such circumstances has a duty to ascertain that the establishment concerned is properly registered and inspected by the responsible local authority.
