PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
AUTOMATED CREDIT TRANSFER AND LOCAL POST OFFICES (29 April 1993)
Motion Details
That this House believes that the introduction of automated credit transfer for pensions and welfare payments will deal a crushing blow to post offices throughout Britain; deplores the inevitable closure of many rural post offices as a consequence; condemns the inevitable loss of service to thousands of pensioners for whom the weekly visit to the post office is a valuable source of information, advice and social contact; and calls upon the Government to live up to its own Citizen's Charter and to its commitment to freedom of choice and the provision of services to suit the convenience of customers, rather than of bureaucrats, by abandoning these proposals.
