PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Keeping schools open (6 January 2022)

Motion Details

That this House recognises that young people have already suffered enormous disruption to their education and spent months isolated from their peers, while parents have been exhausted from the colossal efforts of juggling home schooling and their own work; believes that keeping schools safely open should be a priority in line with keeping hospitals open; further recognises the tireless work of school leaders, teachers and support staff to ensure schools are as safe as possible during the pandemic and applauds these efforts; yet notes that support from the Government has been inadequate to effectively reduce transmission of covid-19; and calls on the Government to distribute additional funding to schools and local authorities to implement measures to reduce the risk of virus transmission including air purification units for every classroom while making the process of distributing those funds as simple as possible.
