PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Development of Peel Hall Site, Warrington (1 December 2021)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the decision of the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to approve planning permission for Satnam Millennium Limited to build 1,200 houses on the Peel Hall site in Warrington; notes that for over thirty years all applications to develop this site have been rejected by Warrington Borough Council and previously all subsequent appeals were rejected by successive governments; recognises the overwhelming local opposition to these plans from residents and elected representatives; fears that such development would mean loss of valued open space, increased traffic congestion, worsened air quality, adversely affected public health, reduced daily enjoyment of local lives, dramatically changed character of the area and increased pressure on local services; is astonished that the Secretary of State believes that the ecology and wildlife of the site would not be unduly harmed by the development; thanks the thousands of residents and campaigners who have fought to protect this area for so long, specifically the Save Peel Hall Campaign Group; agrees that the long-established case to protect this green open space remains overwhelming; and calls on the Secretary of State to reconsider his decision.
