Disability inclusive employment strategy (22 November 2021)

That this House expresses concern that the covid-19 pandemic is still disproportionately affecting the financial security and working status of disabled people across the UK; highlights the recent report by the charity Leonard Cheshire, which found that 69 per cent of disabled people have had their work impacted by the pandemic, rising to 89 per cent among disabled 18-24 year olds; expresses further concern at Leonard Cheshire's findings about employer attitudes, which show that 1 in 5 employers are less likely to hire a disabled person; believes that disabled people must not be left behind as the UK rebuilds from the pandemic; and calls on the Government to increase efforts to support disabled people by adopting Leonard Cheshire’s recommendations, including dedicated employment support for disabled jobseekers, promotion of Access to Work to employers and employees and introducing mandatory reporting for large employers on their performance in employing disabled people.
