PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
£15 an hour minimum wage campaign (17 October 2021)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates Labour Party conference delegates for committing to support the policy of a £15 an hour minimum wage; notes that 14.5 million people in the country are living in poverty, the vast majority of whom are in working households; further notes that 5.5 million workers in the country are paid below the living wage including a third of key workers; believes that it is not possible to level up across the country without a significant increase in the pay, terms and conditions of workers; further believes that increasing the minimum wage to £15 an hour will lift huge numbers of working people out of poverty and create an environment for small businesses to thrive; and calls on the House to implement the Labour Party policy of a £15 an hour minimum wage.
