Support of football fans for communities during the covid-19 outbreak (12 July 2020)
Motion Details
That this House pays tribute to the invaluable role played by football fans in supporting communities, frontline workers and protecting the most vulnerable people in the covid-19 crisis; notes that more than 100 tonnes of food have been donated to local foodbanks since the start of lockdown by Fan Supporting Foodbanks groups from many football clubs including Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Huddersfield Town, Everton and Liverpool; further notes that many Liverpool communities have benefited from food parcels produced and delivered by football supporters working in conjunction with North Liverpool Foodbanks, Homebaked, Food for Thought, British Gas, Optimum Group, LFC Foundation and Everton in the Community, Spirit of Shankly, Blue Union, Hour for Others, City of Liverpool FC and the Rotunda ABC and that Merseyside PPE Hub has produced 100,000+ items of PPE for use in NHS and care homes across the UK when it was in extremely short supply, and that English Football League fans have worked in conjunction with clubs to drop off care packages, ring elderly and vulnerable neighbours and drop off prescriptions; notes that in Scotland, football fans have donated more than one million pounds to their clubs to help them survive covid 19 - an unbelievable effort to keep football alive; and believes that the House has seen the true face of the football supporter and thanks all for the solidarity shown across these islands by supporters to their communities in the fight against covid-19.
