PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HEALTH, SAFETY AND FIRE REGULATIONS AT THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER (8 June 1993)
Motion Details
That this House calls for the urgent removal of Crown immunity from the Palace of Westminster in the interests of the people who work in it, live in it or visit it and in respect of the structure of the building itself; regrets that, to date, the Government has refused to act upon the Bill presented in the last Parliament to remove Crown immunity; welcomes the admission finally given by the Secretary of State for Employment that the Palace of Westminster will be brought under the protection of the Health and Safety at Work enactments; calls upon him to provide an immediate assessment of compliance with current standards and the monitoring of those standards which would apply to any other establishment; and further calls on him to introduce legislation as a matter of urgency to end the outdated, unsafe and anomalous Crown immunity at the Palace of Westminster.
