PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Chester Zoo (7 June 2020)
Motion Details
That this House is concerned that Chester Zoo, and other zoos will not be able to reopen alongside ticketed gardens and non-essential retail; is further concerned that no date for the reopening of zoos has been announced; recognises the enormous contribution Chester Zoo makes to the local economy, to educating the public, as well as to wider global conservation efforts with conservation projects in 40 countries worldwide; notes that Chester Zoo is almost entirely reliant on visitors, with 97 per cent of its income to fund the running of the zoo and the other work it carries out coming from visitors through the gates; and calls on the Government to reconsider the policy to prevent zoos from safely reopening if they adhere to social distancing guidelines
