PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Redundancies at Heathrow Express (1 June 2020)
Motion Details
That this House notes with concern that Heathrow Express has proposed 120 redundancies among its frontline station and on-train keyworkers, in addition to a reorganisation that abolishes the frontline mobile sales advisor and customer concierge grades and cuts many roles to part-time hours; further notes that many of the company’s workers are currently furloughed via the publicly funded Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which aims to prevent job losses and redundancies; is aware that Heathrow Express’ latest accounts show the company made an annual profit of £34 million last year; is concerned that the proposals to reduce frontline staffing would be detrimental to passengers, particularly the disabled and elderly; and calls on the Government to urgently intervene to protect all jobs at Heathrow Express and to take the route into public ownership.
