PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Government support for the UK's cultural and creative industries (1 June 2020)

Motion Details

That this House notes the enormous economic and social value of the UK’s cultural and creative industries; recognises that this sector is particularly hard hit by the coronavirus crisis, including because of the likelihood that they will be amongst the last to fully open because of social distancing measures; believes that the Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS)should be expanded to ensure no creative is left behind and extended until social distancing measures are no longer in force and mass gatherings are permitted; commends the German Government for establishing a 50 billion euro rescue package for the music and wider creative sector; calls on the Government to show similar ambition, starting with a Cultural Sector Hardship Relief Fund to take action on grassroots theatres, arts centres, community pubs, and other cultural spaces in our communities, and funded in part by redirecting the £122 million earmarked for the 2022 Festival of Great Britain; and further calls on the Government to establish a dedicated live entertainment taskforce and to ensure that both it and the cultural taskforce includes more representation from people with understanding and experience of the cultural and creative sectors, including at grassroots level.
