PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Citizenship rights for key workers during the covid-19 pandemic (20 April 2020)
Motion Details
That this House believes that it is unjust that, in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, many key workers are living in perpetual uncertainty about whether they can remain in the UK; expresses its gratitude to all key workers, from doctors to care workers to hospital cleaners, for their efforts in fighting against the virus and protecting the public during the pandemic; urges the Government therefore to grant automatic British citizenship to all key workers who have applied and to waive all application fees; advises that the 2004 decision to grant citizenship rights to Gurkhas resident in the UK could be used as a blueprint; and urges the Home Office to end its hostile environment immigration policies immediately and to value the contribution of all immigrants to society.
