PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Childcare fees (20 April 2020)

Motion Details

That this House expresses concern that parents, including those who have suddenly lost income as a result of coronavirus, are continuing to be charged childcare fees by providers despite coronavirus-related closures; welcomes the significant steps taken so far by Government to support childcare providers financially and to keep childcare provision open for key workers; notes that the Government allows providers to continue to charge parents and has so far only urged all childcare providers to be reasonable and balanced in their dealings with parents, given the great uncertainty they will be facing too; believes that parents being forced both to look after their children at home and continue to pay for childcare provision during closures could force thousands into debt and financial crisis; and calls on the Government to immediately ban childcare providers from continuing to charge parents during coronavirus-related closures and to provide necessary additional financial support to ensure that childcare providers can survive and re-open in due course.
