PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONDUCT OF THE MINISTER OF STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE, THE HON MEMBER FOR EAST HAMPSHIRE, AND OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (6 June 1993)
Motion Details
That this House believes that the Prime Minister should explain to the House why the honourable Member for Hampshire East donated a watch to Mr Asil Nadir bearing the inscription 'Don't let the buggers get you down'; believes that such a donation was singularly ill-timed, ill-judged and entirely inappropriate behaviour on the part of a Minister of the Crown; believes that such a statement undermines the work of the Serious Fraud Office; and further believes that the public is entitled to a statement as to what interest the President of the Board of Trade and the honourable Member for Hampshire East in his capacity as Minister of State at the Northern Ireland Office had in pursuing Mr Nadir's interests.
