PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
AMENDMENT OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT 1991 (11 May 1993)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the Criminal Justice (Amendment No. 2) Bill proposed by the honourable Member for Warwickshire North as a serious attempt to solve the problems created by the Criminal Justice Act 1991 which has caused anger amongst magistrates and judges throughout England and Wales; notes that the Labour front bench made clear its willingness to co-operate with this Bill as it did with the Bail (Amendment) Bill proposed by the honourable Member for Shoreham; congratulates both honourable Members for their efforts to solve problems which have been ignored by Ministers; condemns the Government for blocking the Criminal Justice (Amendment No. 2) Bill on 7th May but believes that this was symptomatic of Ministers' unwillingness to tackle crime and reluctance to accept a helping hand; and urges Ministers to allow the Bill to progress so that agreement can be reached in Committee on how to solve these problems.
