PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PARENTAL WISHES AND NATIONAL CURRICULUM TESTS (9 May 1993)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the decision of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations to ballot its members on whether this year's National Curriculum tests should be voluntary; notes the Independent/NOP poll of parents which shows that a majority of parents believe that the teachers decision to boycott the tests is correct, that this year's tests should be abandoned, that children should be assessed but not given National Curriculum tests at seven, that assessment by Key Stage tests only is unacceptable and that test league tables should not be published as they are misleading; and calls on the Government to respect the wishes of parents by proceeding on a voluntary basis until the current review of the National Curriculum and testing is completed and a general agreement reached on the implementation of assessment and testing in the National Curriculum.
