PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CATFISHING (2 September 2019)

Motion Details

That this House recognises the threat of exploitation to members of the public through the use of fake online profiles; regrets that catfishing is only mentioned twice in the Online Harms White Paper; considers catfishing to be a serious problem which needs to be combatted; acknowledges that anyone can be exploited online at any age; believes that the stigma surrounding being manipulated online must be dissipated via increased discourse; and further acknowledges the value of education surrounding the risk of social media exploitation but believes that it is necessary to consider improved policing of the fake and anonymous accounts which facilitate this manipulation.
