PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHILDREN'S SERVICES IN STOKE ON TRENT (9 April 2019)

Motion Details

That this House notes the deeply concerning OFSTED report that categorised children’s services run by City Independent and Conservative led Stoke-on-Trent City Council as ‘inadequate’ and which highlighted ‘widespread and serious failures which leave children at significant harm’; recognises that the most fundamental role of a local authority is to keep our children safe from harm and that it is unacceptable that senior members of the council's political leadership have failed to attend any corporate parenting board for two years; and calls on the government to intervene to make Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s children’s services fit for purpose and conduct a thorough investigation into the systematic failures of the administration over the past four years including the conduct and actions of the Leader, Deputy leader and current and former cabinet members for children’s services to keep our children safe.
