EFFECT OF CYCLONE IDAI AND FLOODING IN MALAWI, MOZAMBIQUE AND ZIMBABWE (22 March 2019)

Motion Details

That this House recognises the devastating human impact that Cyclone Idai and widespread flooding is having in Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and the wider region of East Africa; notes the significant loss of life, injuries and displacement caused by these climatic conditions; welcomes the announcement of £6 million funding from DFID to provide humanitarian support across the region and also welcome's the Scottish Government’s lifesaving additional allocation of £175,000 to support secure water supplies and treat contamination in the immediate aftermath of the disaster in Malawi in particular; recognises that civic links with Malawi are active in every Scottish constituency; and believes that Scotland and the UK should continue to provide support and assistance to our close friends in Africa at this difficult time.
