PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PLASTIC USE (28 January 2019)

Motion Details

That this House notes that UK households and businesses used 11 million tonnes of plastic packaging last year; further notes that the current system for shipping plastic recycling abroad has been criticised by the National Audit Office as being open to abuse and fraud, with six UK exporters of plastic waste having had their licences suspended or cancelled between August and October 2018; observes that the current policy does not go far enough in addressing the problem and that more policies need to be implemented to minimise the amount of non-biodegradable plastic packaging used; and calls on the Government to bring forward comprehensive proposals to bring about urgently needed change to the production of non-biodegradable plastic packaging limiting it to the most easily recycled plastic types.
