PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FAMINE AND CHOLERA IN YEMEN (30 October 2018)
Motion Details
That this House notes the scale of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has deepened since the outbreak of civil war in March 2015; further notes that since the beginning of the conflict over 50,000 civilians have died, over 13 million people are at risk of starvation and 20 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance; notes that Yemen is faced with the worst cholera crisis in the world with over 1 million people affected and over 2,500 deaths; commends the brave work carried out on the ground by organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontièrs and Islamic Relief; and calls on the Government to impose an immediate suspension to further arms sales for use in the Yemen conflict, to take urgent action in Yemen to prevent famine, stem the spread of cholera and to secure a UN resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire and resumption of peace talks.
