PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
16th ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF GUANTÁNAMO BAY CAMP (9 January 2018)
Motion Details
That this House notes that 11 January 2018 marks the 16th anniversary of the opening of the Guantánamo Bay Prison Camp; further notes that 41 men remain imprisoned at the camp, including five men who were approved for release by the previous US Administration; notes that over half of the detainees have not been charged for any wrongdoing; agrees that all detainees have been denied a fair trial; believes that the five men approved for release should see that decision upheld immediately; further believes that the remaining detainees should have their full human rights restored and that all options, including their release to other countries, should be explored; and urges the Government to make representations to President Trump to finally issue an executive order to close Guantánamo Bay.
