PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
COMMUNICATIONS WORKERS UNION AND ROYAL MAIL (11 October 2017)
Motion Details
That this House commends the campaign waged by employees at Royal Mail for better pay and conditions; notes the fact that Royal Mail should not have been privatised by the Coalition Government in 2013; further commends the hon. Member for Dulwich and West Norwood for calling a Westminster Hall debate on the effect of delivery office closures; acknowledges the result of the balloting of members of the Communications Workers Union who voted to take industrial action with an overwhelming vote of 89.1 per cent on turnout of 73.7 per cent; regrets the fact that Royal Mail viewed legal action as the first response to the loud voice of working people; calls on Royal Mail and its management to engage in real, meaningful and honest talks; requests the Government play its part in ensuring a deal can be found that ensures those employed by Royal Mail are not worse-off in retirement and receive the pay and conditions they deserve; and commits to standing with those workers at Royal Mail, who keep the country going in all weather, 6 days a week and who are fighting for a fairer, better deal.
