PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
GRAMMAR SCHOOLS (12 September 2017)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the Government's decision not to proceed with the Prime Minister's proposal for new selective secondary schools; notes the opening on 8 September 2017 of a new annexe of the Weald of Kent Grammar School in Sevenoaks, maintains that an annexe which accommodates fully 450 pupils and is located nine miles from the rest of the school is in fact a new school and not an annexe at all; expresses concern that this therefore constitutes the first new selective state school to open in the UK for over 50 years; notes that 17 other grammar schools have submitted bids to expand; and calls on the Government to rule out any further extension of selection by stealth.
