PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PUBLIC SECTOR PAY (2 July 2017)

Motion Details

That this House notes the role of the independent pay review bodies in assessing market data and presenting evidence from key stakeholders, including Government, employers and trade unions, as well as carrying out their own enquiries to ascertain the correct level of pay; further notes how Government since 2010 by restraining the remit of the pay review bodies to a maximum uplift of no more than one per cent has resulted in public sector wages significantly falling in real terms, and recognises this has been detrimental to morale, recruitment and retention of staff; and calls on the Government to scrap the cap on public sector pay and restore the independence of the pay review bodies.
