PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
UBER REGULATION IN THE WEST MIDLANDS (20 June 2017)

That this House is concerned that companies such as Uber, that use smartphone apps, are operating without due care and attention to taxi and minicab regulations in the West Midlands; expresses further concern that Uber is entrenching its market position at the expense of minicabs that are fully licensed, by operating in Coventry without having put in a formal application to operate in the city; believes that if this continues public confidence in a safe and secure licensing regime will be undermined and this will subsequently undermine the confidence in the taxi and minicab industry; and calls on the Government to bring forward legislation which provides a clear statutory regulation of the geographical boundaries with which companies such as Uber, that use smartphone apps, can legally operate within to protect the distinction between Uber vehicles, taxis and private hire vehicles.
