PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HIGHWAY CODE (26 March 2017)
Motion Details
That this House is aware that 25,160 people were killed or seriously injured in the last year in the UK, a six per cent increase on the previous year, while driving, cycling or walking with negotiating a junction being the most hazardous manoeuvre and two thirds of all collisions and three quarters of all cycling accidents occurring during this exercise; notes that at present there are at least 14 rules in the Highway Code about negotiating a junction with many believing there is a need for consolidation and clarity; and calls on the Government to review the Code to examine whether it would be appropriate to introduce a universal duty to give way when turning on a highway, especially at traffic light junctions.
