PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FINANCIAL CAPABILITY WEEK 2016 (4 November 2016)

That this House welcomes Financial Capability Week 2016, which runs from 14 to 20 November 2016 and is the first UK-wide national campaign week raising awareness of the importance of financial capability; congratulates the 250 plus organisations which are involved including Citizens Advice, The Pensions Advisory Service, MyBnk and campaigners including Martin Lewis OBE; notes that financial capability in the UK is stubbornly low, evidenced by the fact that one in five people cannot read the balance on a bank statement and eight million people have problems with debt; and urges hon. and right hon. Members to support the campaign so that their constituents will find it easier to manage their money well day to day and during periods of financial difficulty.
