PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DRESS CODES FOR WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE (17 July 2016)

That this House recognises the right of employers to determine a dress code for public-facing staff but does not accept that they have a right to insist on the compulsory wearing by female employees of high heels which cause short-term discomfort but long-term conditions such as hallux valgus, bunions and lower back pain; further recognises that the inability to run, along with additional sexualisation associated with some work attire, may leave women in a vulnerable or even dangerous position; and decries such stereotypical and damaging dress codes being applied to women where there is no equivalent imposed on men which risks both health and safety.
