PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PREVENTING COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION (5 July 2016)
Motion Details
That this House affirms the conclusions of the Home Affairs Select Committee Report on prostitution that soliciting should be removed from the criminal law, and that details of previous convictions for the same offence should be erased from criminal records; notes the Report's finding that inadequate public resources are allocated to helping people exit from prostitution; welcomes the Sex Trade Survivors' Symposium to the Jubilee Room on 13 July 2016 for presentations from those who have been prostituted, with a particular emphasis on the Swedish and New Zealand legal frameworks; and calls on the Government to bring forward legislation to prevent commercial sexual exploitation by addressing demand for prostitution, recognising its impact on the sex trade supply chain.
