PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
EDUCATION IN EMERGENCIES (17 May 2016)

That this House notes that nearly one in six, or 75 million, children aged between 3 and 18 are living in countries affected by crises and are classed as being in desperate need of educational support; supports efforts to scale-up and improve the provision of education to these children; further notes the opportunity provided at the World Humanitarian Summit on 23-24 May 2016 in Istanbul for governments to generate the shared political, operational and financial commitment needed to meet the educational needs of these children, including via the establishment of Education Cannot Wait: the fund for education in emergencies; and calls on the Government to support Education Cannot Wait by being a founding donor in Istanbul.
