PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CAPTAIN ERIC BROWN CBE DSC AFC ROYAL NAVY (No.2) (25 February 2016)
Motion Details
That this House pays tribute to the late Captain Eric Melrose "Winkle" Brown CBE DSC AFC Royal Navy for his outstanding service to our country, to naval aviation and to the cause of reconciliation; notes that he flew more aircraft types, 487, than any other person in the world, a record which is unlikely ever to be broken; further notes that he completed more aircraft carrier deck landings, 2,407, than any other person in the world; notes that he helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen in 1945 and that he interrogated Field Marshal Hermann Goering in German at the end of the war; notes that after World War 2 he tested every German jet and rocket-powered aircraft and that he introduced to the Americans aircraft carrier technologies which enhanced naval aviation safety; and recognises that, even though he retired from the Royal Navy in 1970, he continued to play a key role in advising aerospace companies on naval aviation and in educating the young.
