PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LANCET SERIES ON BREASTFEEDING (2 February 2016)
Motion Details
That this House notes the publication of the Lancet series on breastfeeding; is concerned by the finding that globally a lack of protection and support for breastfeeding is killing more than 800,000 babies each year, causing more than 20,000 deaths from breast cancer, and costing the global economy around $302 billion per annum in lost economic potential; believes it is the responsibility of governments to support breastfeeding and to protect citizens from the aggressive marketing of breast milk substitutes; further believes that governments must take action to implement and enforce the international code on the marketing of breastmilk substitutes; and acknowledges that breastfeeding has significant health benefits for mothers and babies.
