PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SOUTHERN AND THAMESLINK RAIL SERVICES (21 January 2016)
Motion Details
That this House expresses dismay at the substandard service provided by Southern Rail, Thameslink Rail and other rail companies causing severe delays to suburban commuters; stresses that the regular delays and cancellations on Thameslink and Southern Rail lines cause severe daily travel disruptions for thousands of commuters within South London; calls on the Government to reduce the minimum threshold for suburban train services' Delay Repay scheme from 30 minutes to 15 minutes; urges an introduction of 50 per cent compensation of the single fare for 15 to 29 minute delay and 100 per cent compensation of a single fare for delays of 30 minutes or more; and further urges the Government to work with rail companies and the Department for Transport to implement the proposed amendment to the Delay Repay scheme in existing contracts immediately, and in all newly agreed franchise contracts going forward.
