PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SAVE OUR STEEL CAMPAIGN (22 October 2015)

Motion Details

That this House congratulates the Daily Mirror on its Save our Steel campaign; is concerned by the crisis in the UK steel industry; recognises the fundamental importance of steel manufacturing to the UK economy and that sector's role in supporting tens of thousands of jobs in its supply chains, while acting as a major contributor to the UK's balance of payments; notes the profound significance of steelmaking to communities across the country; is deeply disappointed at the lack of Government action to prevent the loss of thousands of jobs in Redcar and across the UK; further recognises and values the important role that the unions, led by Community, the leading steelworkers union, have played in defending the UK steel industry and supporting the workforce; and supports the Daily Mirror's four point plan to secure the future of British steelmaking.
