PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HOMELESSNESS AND PHILANTHROPY (18 October 2015)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the charitable and humanitarian gesture made by former Manchester United players Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs in allowing homeless people to stay in their property, the former stock exchange building, over the coming winter; notes that across England there are over 700,000 empty buildings which, if put into use, could end street homelessness overnight; calls for action against property investors buying new homes and leaving them empty, as asset lockers, with 30 per cent of new homes purchased having no one on the electoral register; and congratulates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs on their philanthropy, which sets a clear example to other wealthy and successful people to help those less fortunate than themselves.
