PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
IRISH NAVAL SERVICE HUMANITARIAN WORK IN THE MEDITERRANEAN (8 September 2015)

Motion Details

That this House recognises the role being played by the Irish Naval Service in the Mediterranean in rescuing men, women and children fleeing war zones and conflicts, in particular the current conflict in Syria; furthermore praises the efforts of the crews of LÉ Niamh, LÉ Eithne and LÉ Samuel Beckett who have been deployed on humanitarian missions in the Mediterranean since May 2015, rescuing nearly 7,000 refugees; and calls on the Government to follow the example of Ireland and return a Royal Navy vessel to specific humanitarian work in the Mediterranean.
