PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
100th ANNIVERSARY OF AWARD OF VICTORIA CROSS TO ROBERT DUNSIRE, METHIL (7 September 2015)

That this House notes that September 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the act of supreme gallantry in which Private Robert Dunsire, a coal miner from Methil in Fife, twice risked his life to go into the field under heavy fire to rescue wounded comrades during the Battle of Loos; recalls that he received the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest award for bravery, in recognition of his courage; further notes with sadness that he was killed in action less than two months after receiving his medal from King George V; commends the work carried out over the last two years to mount an exhibition in Methil Heritage Centre to commemorate this anniversary and to keep his memory alive; and in particular records its thanks to the volunteer Friends of Methil Heritage Centre for the dedication they have shown not only in bringing this exhibition to fruition but in providing an informative and inspirational centre which is helping to keep alive the traditions and social history of Levenmouth.
