PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MND RESEARCH AND GORDON'S FIGHTBACK (19 July 2015)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates Gordon Aikman on a stunningly successful campaign, Gordon's Fightback, which has substantially raised the profile of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cruelly progressive and debilitating disease, for which there is currently no cure; notes that over £320,000 has been raised by Gordon's Fightback to fund vitally important research into this disease; further notes the huge level of public support and funds raised for MND by the 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge; further notes that the UK is home to some of the world's best MND researchers and specialist research facilities; further notes that public spending on MND research decreased by a third between 2010-11 and 2013-14; further notes that Medical Research Council funding for MND research has dropped to a five-year low; believes finding a cure for MND is of vital importance; and calls on the Government to introduce a long-term strategy, and doubled public spending on MND research, to hasten the day a cure for MND is found.
