PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ABERDEEN INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL (15 July 2015)

Motion Details

That this House recognises the success of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF) which will run for the 42nd time from 24 July to 1 August 2015; understands the festival will have over 80 performances across 50 venues in the North East of Scotland; notes that the AIYF began as an orchestral festival in the 1960s in Switzerland before moving permanently to Aberdeen in 1973 where it has grown to include a variety of music, drama and dance performances as well as workshops for up and coming artists; further recognises that more than 27,500 young people from around the globe have taken part in the AIYF since it began, making it one of the biggest and most successful gatherings of youth talent in the world; commends the work the AIYF organisation does throughout the year on community projects to enhance cultural activity across the city; and wishes all those involved with the AIYF every success with this year's festival and in the future.
