PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HAMPTON SCHOOL AND THE TEXTBOOK THE RWANDAN GENOCIDE (12 July 2015)

Motion Details

That this House thanks and congratulates the boys of Hampton School for their work in writing a textbook resource focused on the 1994 Rwandan Genocide; notes that the boys were aware that only 20 per cent of history teachers in the UK teach the Rwandan Genocide to pupils, and embarked on a project to make it more widely taught in schools up and down the country; further notes that they produced a book which they intend to distribute to schools with information and facts on the atrocity as well as first-hand interviews with survivors and those affected; and supports the students and their school in their endeavour to increase the profile and teaching of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide to ensure that future generations know what happened, its causes and impact, and how future mass atrocities can be prevented.
