MAIDEN FLIGHT OF AIRBUS A350 XWB (16 June 2013)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the successful maiden flight of Airbus' next generation of aircraft, the A350 Xtra Wide Body, on 14 June 2013, piloted by experienced British test pilot Peter Chandler; further welcomes the use of the very latest in aerodynamics, design and advanced technologies to provide an aircraft with 25 per cent better fuel efficiency compared to its current competitors; commends the £3 billion investment in the aircraft and its Rolls-Royce engines, securing over 1,200 Airbus jobs in the UK and an additional 5,000 across the wider UK supply chain; and congratulates Airbus and Rolls-Royce on their continuing investment in order to secure the UK's position as a global centre for aerospace manufacture.
