PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHILDCARE RATIOS (8 May 2013)
Motion Details
That this House is concerned about Government proposals in More Great Childcare to reduce staff to child ratios for nurseries and childminders caring for children under three years old; believes this to be the wrong step to take to improve childcare quality and cost which will lead to a reduction in quality and could threaten child safety and the ability of childcare professionals in nursery and home settings to meet the emotional and attachment needs of babies and young children; notes there are sizeable numbers of parents, providers and organisations in the childcare sector wholly opposed to a reduction in ratios; further notes that there is little evidence that changes to ratios will have any effect on reducing costs; and calls on the Government to reverse this decision.
