PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TIPPING POINT REPORT ON WELFARE CUTS (3 December 2012)
Motion Details
That this House is aware of the report by the Hardest Hit campaign, The Tipping Point, published by a coalition of over 50 disability charities and organisations to highlight the impact of the Government's welfare cuts and reforms on disabled people; notes that the report reveals many shocking statistics including that 80 per cent of disabled people claim that losing their disability living allowance will drive them into isolation and lead to them struggling to manage their condition, 90 per cent fear that losing disability living allowance would be detrimental to their health, 75 per cent said their health had worsened considerably because of the stress caused by their work capability assessment for employment and support allowance and 90 per cent of welfare advisers have stated that too many disabled people are being left without adequate support by the welfare system; and calls on the Government to desist from making such changes and instead to ensure that disabled people are given the necessary help and support to lead normal and healthy lives.
