PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SOCIAL SECTOR UNDER-OCCUPANCY (28 November 2012)
Motion Details
That this House regrets that the measures to introduce size criteria restrictions to the calculation of housing benefit for working age claimants living in the social rented sector take no account of whether alternative accommodation is available; believes that this will result in cuts to the incomes of some of the poorest in society; notes that such measures fail to provide sufficient safeguards to protect the most vulnerable claimants and ensure that they are not pushed into poverty and homelessness; further believes that they will not achieve their aim of tackling under-occupancy; and further notes that they will risk costing more than they will save.
