PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHILD POVERTY IN MANCHESTER AND NATIONWIDE (12 September 2012)
Motion Details
That this House notes the Report, Family Poverty Strategy which was considered by Manchester City Council on 12 September 2012; is concerned that 40,000 children are in families living below or seriously below the poverty line; is aware of the links between poverty, poor health, low educational and occupational achievement, low self-esteem and behavioural issues and crime; considers this report to be a wake-up call for all relevant agencies; applauds the campaign of the Manchester Evening News to highlight this issue; is further concerned that child poverty is once against on the increase in Manchester and nationwide; endorses the call of the city council for central Government to work with Manchester on child poverty; and calls on the Government to put effort and resource into working with partner agencies nationwide to commit to an anti-poverty strategy and make a real difference to the lives of many of the nation's children.
